This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Caretaker, School Caretaker, Site Manager, Premises Manager or Facilities professional looking for a new opportunity within a school environment.

The successful candidate will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the school site, ensuring that the school buildings and grounds are safe, secure, clean and well maintained.

You will be responsible for overseeing the cleaning team, carrying out general caretaking and maintenance duties, supporting Health & Safety procedures and acting as a keyholder for the school.

Key Responsibilities


As a School Caretaker / Site Manager, your duties will include:

  • Supervising and monitoring the effectiveness of the cleaning team.
  • Acting as a keyholder and carrying out school opening and closing procedures.
  • Responding to out-of-hours emergencies, including burglar alarms, break-ins and damage to the school.
  • Helping to prevent unauthorised access to school buildings and grounds.
  • Providing access to the school during emergencies such as snow, flooding or similar situations.
  • Carrying out first-line repairs and general maintenance within your level of competence.
  • Identifying and prioritising maintenance requirements across the school site.
  • Ensuring the school premises and grounds are clean, safe and free from litter.

  • Monitoring supplies of cleaning materials and other site supplies.
  • Ensuring caretaking equipment is safe and in good working condition.
  • Arranging deliveries and ensuring materials are distributed appropriately.
  • Preparing the school premises for events and activities outside normal school hours.
  • Supporting emergency procedures in the event of fire, flooding, accidents or major damage.
  • Planning your own workload and supporting the organisation of cleaning and caretaking staff.
  • Monitoring premises-related Health & Safety procedures and reporting any concerns.
  • Liaising with contractors, school staff and other visitors to the school.
  • Carrying out portable appliance testing where appropriately trained and accredited.

About You

The school is looking for a reliable, practical and proactive individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, facilities or premises role.
  • Experience supervising staff would be advantageous.
  • A practical and hands-on approach to maintenance and problem solving.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • An understanding of Health & Safety procedures.
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and work independently.
